VIGNA LA MICCIA Marsala Superiore Oro DOC - Riserva 5 years

In 1985, Marco De Bartoli gave birth to a new style of marsala by marrying tradition with new methods of winemaking. 'Vigna La Miccia', classified as an Oro (gold) Marsala, is a semi-dry elegant marsala produced using a cold maceration vinification process; it reveals an intense bouquet of Grillo. It is aged for 4 years in barriques that are constantly topped up with new wine.

Tasting notes

An innovative, contemporary expression of Marsala where the most fruity and delicate notes of the grape have been preserved thanks to cool vinification and avoiding any contact with oxygen during the aging period. Bright amber in colour in the glass, delicate notes of dried fruits, almonds and toasted hazelnuts predominate, balsamic finish followed by a hint of caramel, in the mouth it presents continuous sensations of heat, flavour but also freshness.

Food pairing

Drink it with all sorts of dishes: pumpkin-filled pasta, soft and blue cheeses, foie gras, prawns as well as with dessert.

Area of production

Contrada Samperi, Marsala (Trapani), Western Sicily. Limestone, sandy soil.

Production process

Manual harvest, clusters put in small cases, starting the first week of September. Manual selection of the grapes, soft pressing, natural decanting, traditional fermentation with wild yeasts in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Aged 4 years in French oak barrels, always topped up.

Fun facts

It is in Sicily, in the western part of the island, in Marsala, that Marco De Bartoli strongly believing in the viticulture traditions of his territory, rediscovers and nourishes the deep root between the traditional and innovative methods of working the soil and winemaking. Looking for an excellent quality, combined with the respect for Sicilian wine traditions, Marco chooses native grapes, especially Grillo, cultivated in Sicily since the Phoenician age and main grape of the classic Marsala wine. A passionate research started from Marco De Bartoli that continues today thanks to his children, Renato, Sebastiano and Giuseppina who are focusing more and more on vintage wine production, monovarietal and native wines.
